I'm looking for a good alternative to tide me over until I can. Oh, trust me, I WANT to shell out for an arcade style stick, just can't at the moment. There are a handfull I recall which are blessed for noncommercial redistribution by their copyright holders, but it's only a handfull. I'm not really aware of any that are PD, as MAME's goal has never been to support a development community (which is the only thing that generates PD roms). I'm sure there are probably a few ROMs that have been declared "public domain" or whatever, and are legal to download, but there are precious few. Of course, if it has any kind of encryption, you run quite afoul of the DMCA or your local decryption equivalent law.Īnd also depending on where you live, it may be illegal to even own the arcade board itself.Īnd let's not forget that a sizable amount of the roms supported by mame are bootlegs themselves, and were never legal in the first place.

It just might be legal to dump the Rom to your PC from the actual board you own.
If you don't own the actual arcade boards with the ROMS on them, then you can't legally download the ROMs. If you give a fuck about legality you're not going to enjoy MAME. How/where do you get legal stuff? I tried out Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat (need a joystick, but, boy, were they cool!) but I don't know if they were legal. What are you looking for in an arcade stick?Īnd where the fuck is the Perpetual Gaming Hardware Thread when you need it?Īlso, legality.
Any good inexpensive alternatives?īlaze Twin is as cheap as it gets, but it's no X-Arcade. Couple questions - what do you suggest for a joystick? I never had an excuse to buy the X-Arcade one (have one, now, though), but I can't afford it right now.
